Off the Shelf Festival: Our Lives: Stories from St. Wilfrid’s Centre St.

St Wilfrid’s Creative Writing group take to the stage: Off the Shelf Festival – Fringe Festival

We are so proud of our Creative Writing Group who will be reading and sharing their share stories, poems and other pieces that they have written about their experiences as part of ‘Off The Shelf Festival’ on Monday 21 October at 7.00 pm.

‘Our Lives’ is the culmination of a 12 month collaborative project with Sheffield Hallam University’s  Creative Writing Department. Over the course of the project the 8 strong group led and managed by volunteer Lauren O’Donoghe, herself a student in Creative Writing, have worked together to develop client’s creative writing skills working on prose, descriptive writing, poems and memoirs. Over the course of the year, client’s enjoyed workshop runs by published writers from Sheffield Hallam University: Chris Jones, Joanne Dobson and Yvonne Battle- Felton.

Says Sheffield based poet Chris Jones ‘I really enjoyed talking to the group through the morning and they responded with some brilliant work.’

Come and listen to their stories and support the group on their stage debut.

it’s helped me beat the Monday blues coming to this class and it’s helped with my confidence and it has got me back into reading and writing again. I particularly enjoy the poetry and I really want to keep writing at home, not just in class.’

‘I’ve learnt how to write a full story and really enjoyed it. Lauren has been great.’

‘telling stories is a great way for me to express how I am feeling.’
